Hanna Karits Studio designed a summer holiday home on Matsia Beach in Estonia. The two black buildings with gable roofs are surrounded by old fishing shacks and abandoned wooden boats of the once prosperous village of the Soviet era. Between the two volumes a wooden terrace is connecting the two parts of the project, offering beautiful views of the sea. On the terrace there is a jacuzzi protected from the wind and shaded by trees.
The larger building is the main house, while the smaller block serves as a bath with sauna. The glass facade of the main residence lets in the views, ever changing depending on the season and time of day, changing the perception of the interior. The interior is contrasted with the completely black exterior of the house. Furniture and textiles emphasize the atmosphere of a beach holiday, the walls and ceilings are finished with birch.
